RAC Social Media policy
Social media can be of great benefit to us individually and to Rushcliffe AC generally – many of us are using social media such as Facebook and Twitter to keep in touch and find out what’s going on. The club aims to build relationships and work with its members and the athletics community to share news/information/successes. We will endeavour to use social media to engage appropriately with other areas that could benefit the club.
Rushcliffe AC takes e-safety and its duty of care seriously. The club will do all that it reasonably can to ensure that various online and working environments, including online forums, are safe for members.
Here are a few things to keep in mind to ensure that we always apply common sense in our use of social media:
Code of conduct
Rushcliffe AC’s constitution requires that we all treat each other with respect and do not engage in actions which would bring the Club into disrepute – this includes how we conduct ourselves in all our activities with the Club, including social media.
Have fun and share the spirit of this great athletics club but please remember to be respectful online just as you would be in person.
Do's and Don'ts before posting / interacting on Social Media
- Think twice before posting. If you wouldn't want your employer, parents, friends, colleagues or future employer to see your post, don't post it.
- Be respectful. Be positive. Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
- Remember many different audiences will see your posts including Club members, potential members, children, member's relatives and friends.
- Be professional and polite.
- Don't post anything that you wouldn’t say openly in a workplace such as comments about drug use, profanity, off-colour or sexual humour, ethnic slurs, or personal insults.
- Be in the right state of mind when you make a post. Don't post when you're angry, upset, or your judgement is impaired in any way. Remember, the Internet is permanent!
- Ensure you have permission to ‘share’ other peoples’ materials and acknowledge the author
- Don’t breach copyright, data protection or other relevant legislation
- Consider the appropriateness of content given the age of readers, and don’t link to, embed or add potentially inappropriate content
- Don’t post derogatory, defamatory, offensive, harassing or discriminatory content
- Don’t use social media to air internal grievances
- Seek advice and report any mistakes to the Club Committee as soon as possible
Remember that Rushcliffe AC reserves the right to delete any post or comment within any club forum, without warning or notice. Persistent flouting of this code will result in banning from the forum and/ or club disciplinary action.
Complaints
Please remember that posts are not routinely moderated and we rely on the conduct of members to allow the social media forums to operate smoothly. If you have any concerns and wish to complain about any post please email Rushcliffe AC detailing your complaint. The complaint will then be investigated by a Committee representative, either quickly and informally by speaking to the poster and the complainant, or if further action is required through the Club's formal procedures as detailed in the Club Constitution. Where conduct is considered illegal, the club will report the matter to the police and other relevant external agencies, and may take action according to its Disciplinary policy.
Use of Other Peoples’ Materials
Sharing content such as images, photographs and video is extremely popular and easy to do via social media sites. While this may have value in an educational context, there is a real risk of breaching the rights of individuals who own the different media e.g. images rights, patents, copyright in a blog, or rights associated with collaborative outputs. All members should ensure they have permission or other justification to share content in this way. Content is particularly risky where it is commercially valuable, confidential and/or sensitive.
